We drown beneath the daily grind
The self ‘nointed cause, the ties that bind
Yet still we stand, a fleeting race
Upon the turrets, past watch effaced
Are we lone sailors on cosmic seas?
No kin to share our galaxies
Then rarer still than dust or stone
Are moments which we call our own
For stars are heaped in countless store
Inconceivable evermore
Yet all their burning, all their gleam
Is crowned by lives that dare to dream
While all the void is spinning deep
With all the things the stars will keep
What gives weight to all above
Are humble acts and fragile love
Each life that draws in Earthly breath
Defies the chill of entropic death
Our oceans blue and verdant green
Is precious, dear, univers’lly unseen
So let us stand, though night be near
Our cause and wonder entwine us here
Our moments flung through boundless skies
The rarest truth the dark will prize
In remnant waves our stories stream
Like lanterns cast in gemflecked dream
Crepuscular rays ‘gainst dusk’s frontier
Stars see our light, know we were here
